Fast service...

(this is part two of two of the review by edward j janzen) so what happened the next night? well, a patrol car entered the parking lot about 3:30 am ... stopped the vehicle, about 30 feet from where i was dancing, turned off the lights; and remained there till i vacated the area and found someplace else to go. these are 'cops being cowboys' and they are in every city and town that i have been in, this past decade. someone like myself who just doesn't 'fit into the herd', someone who can't be controlled the way most people are; are subjected to policing that has become a 'law unto itself'; and it matters not if one is law-abiding; the police officer of today, has become, 'the law'. so when you hear and read of police injustice; when you read or hear of people who are vilified by law enforcement because of their gender, sexual orientation, or belief; understand that the police officer is not there to protect your rights; the police officer is not there to uphold the 'rule of law'. the police officer is there to 'control the situation', by whatever means possible; and to make determinations not based on the rule of law, but on the views of the police officers, themselves.

I thought that the police service was supposed to protect and serve. Not give attitude, confuse a situation and make things personal.

'LAW ENFORCEMENT' (commentary by edward j janzen) (a necessary evil, but an evil nonetheless) perhaps it is my aversion to unrestrained authority; or maybe my experiences with law enforcement in the dozen or so towns and cities i have lived in these past ten years, that has shaped my view of the men and women in this profession. certainly the news these days does not paint the kind of picture you would expect of those who are sworn to 'serve and protect'; and this causes one to wonder if maybe society should take a harsher look at the core values of these men and women in blue. after all, if anyone thinks that policing, funded by taxpayer dollars, is there to protect the rights of citizens, and to uphold the rule of law; they are living in a time that has long since passed us by, if ever it existed at all. policing today is 'managed order'; the corralling of citizens into a mindset of control; where the police officer now contends with those who do not fall into the perimeters of what the police officer believes is his or her view of 'acceptance' in society. the rule of law, then as such, has little to do with whatever he or she does on the job. it is for this reason and one other, (that i will get to later), that the rights of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious view, among others, have little to no value in the training of a police officer. the only question for law enforcement is...how can the police officer corral the populous, into a controlled environment? 'cops being cowboys', where the citizenry are viewed as cattle, sheep, or goats; where the 'stragglers' are either bullied into the herds; or fed into the judicial system legally or otherwise. for example, as a boy i remember hearing many stories of police officers dragging persons from gay bars, taking them off into the woods or a secluded place to beat the 'tar' out of them; without any accountability for such actions. 'we just saved the taxpayer some money!' and my personal favorite ... 'even if someone lodges a complaint, my fellow officers will always be there to back me up'. (this is the 'one other' that i was speaking of earlier). yes, i know, this was 60 years ago, and much has changed since then; but has it? for example, i am 67 and i like to dance. this is an excellent way for a man my age to keep in shape and manage his weight. to accomplish this i usually find a place in a secluded parking lot, or area; between 2 am and 6 am in the morning when most people are sleeping. and my sessions usually last about an hour and a half. as expected, having found residency in a new town, a police officer eventually entered the parking lot, about 4 am. and about 200-300 yards into it, he stopped his vehicle, and asked me what i was doing. 'dancing for exercise', 'but i will go someplace else', i answered. his response to me was ... 'i really don't care, i just wanted to know what you were doing.' this police officer was polite, his tone considerate; much better than mine, in that my experiences with police officers in other cities as to my dancing regimen, usually ended up with my finding someplace else to go. but please notice his answer ... 'i really don't care' ... whatever the law was, it didn't matter...the 'law' was what the police officer himself thought acceptable. if this police officer has said to me, 'you can't be here' ... the rule of law would not have mattered...i would simply have to leave. in this way policing has become a 'law unto itself'. the only 'rights' you have as a citizen, are those the police officer says you have, especially between 11 pm and 5 am, when most people are sleeping, and there is less worry of video from cell phones and i-phones.
