Was referred by my rhumatologist for good reason. Results are far clearer and more accurate and I can't say enough about the staff. Always pleasent, professional and efficient!! Wait times are reasonable, office is clean and bright!

I am writing this as I feel I have a duty as a survivor of sexual violence ( SA) but also as a trauma therapist who works with and advocates for survivors for a living. I was scheduled for my first ultrasound in my very new pregnancy journey- as many would know, this is already a very vulnerable space to be in. During this appointment, the technician is confirming the viability of the pregnancy. However, my journey is further complicated by a history of SA. I had knowledge through my own research that this appointment might require an internal ultrasound. This type of procedure is especially difficult for survivors of SA. Given the nature of the procedure, it can lead to things like flashbacks and other reexperiencing symptoms. I chose this clinic as they stated on their website that they are "Trauma Informed." At the time of my appointment, I kindly requested that my partner come in the room with me. As a survivor, I know what helps me to stay grounded during these types of procedures, I find having a safe person with me is pivotal to my emotional safety. I also recommend this to my clients who have SA histories. It was at this point that the manager stated that I could not bring my partner in with me, when I disclosed that I struggle with internal ultrasounds due to my history- she noted that her policy is that I should have known to disclose this on the phone to the person booking the appointment. As an advocate, I attempted to offer her feedback, noting that as a patient I had no knowledge that I needed to disclose this beforehand. I asked if in the future she could be transparent about this policy with clients, as many patients will struggle in this way due to histories of trauma. She stated "no, patients know to disclose this beforehand and we can't say this to every client." I offered feedback to add it to the website, however, my feedback was shutdown by all members of this team. I fought tears as I was about to leave, without my ultrasound- enduring this procedure without my partner would have been emotionally unsafe for me. After much advocating, finally they allowed my partner to come into the appointment. I was left feeling raw and vulnerable and honestly could not enjoy what should have been a moment about the new life, that my partner and I had created. The manager did call me following the appointment stating that she was sorry and that the policy IS that patients can bring a guest. However, this does not undo the harm and emotional stress that was caused when I was already feeling scared and vulnerable. Recommendations for this clinic if they wish to truly practice from a trauma informed stance is as follows: Not expecting patients to disclose trauma history in order to receive trauma informed care. Talking about trauma histories, especially with people who the patient does not know or trust can be triggering and re-traumatizing. This can lead to re-experiencing and destabilization. Offer patients choice when possible : In trauma there is often no choice or choice has been taken away, therefore clients who have experienced trauma benefit from autonomy. This could include, allowance for patient to do what they need to feel safe and grounded in appt- ie. having a safe person, bringing grounding tools like a stuffed animal, fidget toys etc. Transparency of what the procedure will entail, this will help individuals who have trauma histories to prepare for the procedure and have an increased sense of stability and safety. This could be done before the procedure or even via email. I genuinely hope that this review leads to revision of this clinics practices, however, given my experience, I cannot recommend this clinic to folks with trauma histories who wish to be treated with respect and sensitivity. Absolutely wonderful staff and technicians. Sana did my ultrasound, she was professional and make me feel comfortable when I was nervous. The facility is also really clean. Thank you for making the annoying process of an ultrasound so quick and seamless.
